James Redekopp

I'm a Computer Engineering student at UWaterloo interested in high-performance systems. I work in C++, CUDA, and Rust, with an emphasis on measurable performance—from data layout to GPU kernels. I founded UW High Performance Computing and research distributed GPU graph algorithms. I'm especially interested in HFT and ML infrastructure. Open to new opportunities and collaborations.

GPU-Accelerated Coordinate Scanner

[cuda] [c++]

A CUDA scanner that searched 125B candidate coordinates in 0.94 seconds on an RTX 3090—205× faster than the Java reference. Grid-stride traversal, warp compaction, and precomputed hashes made the kernel another 4.9× faster.

Maximal Independent Set Solver

[c++] [openmp]

A parallel implementation of Luby's algorithm that processes 648M edges/s—4.2× faster after replacing pointer-based adjacency lists with flat CSR storage. Roofline analysis identified irregular memory-access latency as the bottleneck.

Variational Monte Carlo

[cuda] [c++]

A C++23/CUDA variational Monte Carlo engine for electron-gas simulation, built with a five-person UWHPC team. Replacing two O(N²) Jastrow evaluations with one O(N) delta update cut CPU runtime by 84%; results were validated within 0.005 Ha/electron of Perdew–Zunger references.

Pufferfish

[c++] [nnue]

A C++ chess engine with alpha-beta search, transposition tables, quiescence search, and pruning. Futility and late-move pruning cut depth-8 search by 70% and runtime from 2.14s to 0.76s; the original Python bot placed 3rd of 75 teams at ChessHacks.

Petri

[rust] [tui]

A terminal implementation of Conway's Game of Life written in Rust. Its browser counterpart runs quietly behind this page.

Minecraft Combat Mod

[java] [fabric]

A Fabric mod that signals when players enter attack reach, with 2.8M+ downloads on Modrinth. Maintained across 18 Minecraft releases using Mixin-based HUD injection.
